This webcast summarizes the importance of having a cooperative agreement between DARS and local school divisions in place. It explores the roles and responsibilities each party may have under the cooperative agreement. Additionally, it discusses the role that communication, collaboration, and coordination play in the provision of Pre-ETS and avoiding the duplication of efforts.

Bios:

Michele Franklin is a Pre-ETS Facilitator with VCU’s Rehabilitation Research and Training Center. She earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from Mary Baldwin University and an endorsement in the Adaptive Curriculum from Radford University. Michele is an experienced educator with over 11 years in general education and adapted curriculum classrooms, serving families and students of Bedford and Franklin Counties. For two years, she supported Roanoke City Public Schools as the transition specialist by providing district-wide transition and postsecondary consultation and training support to teachers, students, and families. She is also experienced in implementing high-quality work-based learning programs, vocational training, and career counseling for students with disabilities. Prior to her career in education, Michele worked in social work and counseling.

Diara Seruby is a Pre-ETS Facilitator with VCU’s Rehabilitation Research and Training Center and has a decade of experience as a vocational rehabilitation professional. Diara has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the College of William and Mary and worked providing independent living support to adults with intellectual disabilities and Autism as well as providing in-home counseling support to children and families. She obtained a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013 and worked as a Transition and Pre-ETS Counselor for the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services for 7 years. In 2021,  she completed a  Graduate Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders through  Emporia State College.  She also worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Veterans Benefits Administration for 3 years.
