This webcast is a two part series.  Part I: Join Steven Faulkner, Bureau Chief of the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services in this two part series to see self-employment implementation at the leadership level and the counselor level.  Steven will share his perspective from the administrative level on how IVRS has worked to make self-employment accessible to all VR customers, altering our process to include customized self-employment, and inclusion of a stronger role by the VR counselor in introducing assistive technology solutions and benefits planning.  Attendees will learn about the transformation that occurred at various levels and how the messaging from leadership has impacted outcomes.

Presenter Bio:
 
Steven Faulkner was a practicing dentist in a rural small town in Cedar County Iowa from 1979 until he began losing his eyesight to retinitis pigmentosa. In 1987, He sold his dental practice and returned to the University of Iowa to pursue a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling at the College of Education, graduating  in December of 1988.  Faulkner joined the staff of (Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services IVRS) at the Mason City Area Office in March 1989 as a rehabilitation counselor.  In 2002, Faulkner became the supervisor of the Mason City Area Office for IVRS, and beginning January 2, 2018, he was named chief of the Rehabilitation Services Bureau. As the chief of the IVRS field operations, Faulkner supervises all IVRS regional offices and branches, plus our assistive technology program, and also the Iowa Self-Employment programs.
