Intense Supports for Social Skills Delivery at the High School Level

Post-secondary outcome research on adults with autism consistently demonstrates that social skills are key to maintaining stable employment. Alexandria City Public Schools Autism Team recognized this need within their own student population. This webcast will share how ACPS developed and offered a social skills course for high school students on the autism spectrum. In addition, assessment of progress will be addressed.
Erin Stone was first a special education teacher for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities before returning to school to receive her doctorate in Clinical & School Psychology from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY. She worked as a school psychologist while completing her dissertation then became a school administrator of a special education early childhood center in Brooklyn, NY. In her positions as psychologist and administrator, Erin began to specialize in autism to support students in her schools. She received her BCBA-D in 2008. Erin moved to Alexandria, VA in 2010 as a BCBA for Alexandria City Public Schools and is currently their Autism Services Coordinator.
Stacy Ulrich is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who holds a Master’s of Science degree in Special Education from Waynesburg University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from Duquesne University. Stacy has worked as a teacher for students with emotional disturbance, multiple disabilities and autism. During those years she obtained her BCBA and began to specialize in training parents and staff to develop and implement instructional and behavioral programs using the principles of applied behavior analysis. Stacy currently works at Alexandria City Public Schools as a BCBA for students in Pre-K through High School.
