From Diagnosis to Intervention for Individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder
Presenter Bio: With more than 30 years of experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders, Dr. Oswald is the Director of Research and Diagnostics at the Commonwealth Autism Service in Richmond, Virginia. Additionally, he serves many roles such as an adjunct professor in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education and clinical psychologist and clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the VCU School of Medicine.
Description: This webcast will provide information related to screening, diagnosis and identification of ASD. Dr. Oswald will discuss why an accurate diagnosis is important and how it may direct intervention services appropriate for the child that focuses on his or her characteristics, strengths and needs. An overview of the screening and diagnostic processes will be provided with a focus on valid tools, how the evaluations are to be completed, and who is qualified to make a differential diagnosis. Dr. Oswald will discuss the evaluation process and how it is to be completed by involving the family as full partners throughout while maintaining clear communication and respect.
