Mini Webcast: Discovering ME! for Court-Involved Youth
Learn how educators use Discovering Me for Court-Involved Youth, a person-centered planning tool, to support students with disabilities in correctional settings. In this webcast, Karen Akom shares how she and Ms. Tamara Randolph adapted the tool at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center to focus on strengths, interests, and career goals.
Youth with disabilities make up 33% of those in U.S. detention facilities and face significant barriers to graduation and employment. This tool helps overcome those challenges with two structured sessions: 1) assessing skills and interests, setting goals, and 2) planning targeted activities. The process builds self-determination, reduces behavior issues, and supports smoother transitions through updated IEPs and real-world planning.
