Cognitive Support Technology for Postsecondary Students with Traumatic Brain Injuries: Results of a Randomized Clinical Trial

This presentation will describe the activities and outcomes of a randomized control trial investigation designed to promote the use of cognitive support technology among college and university students with disabilities. Sixty students across the US have participated in the program, which consists of assistive technology assessments and intensive vocational case management services. Results to date suggest that the virtually-delivered intervention has strong positive effects on particpants’ mental and general health status, use of technology to support their academic studies, grades and academic retention rates, paid employment activities, and career optimism.
Bio:
Phillip Rumrill, Ph.D., CRC, is a Professor of Counselor Education and Director of Research at the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Rumrill is well known as one of the leading vocational rehabilitation researchers in the United States. His research interests include applied career preparatory interventions for people with disabilities, job retention, and career maintenance, implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and neurological disabilities. Dr. Rumrill has authored or co-authored approximately 500 professional publications, including 16 commercially published books. He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences, delivering more than 700 addresses to wide-ranging professional, academic, and consumer audiences.
