Background:  The authors of this article reviewed 27 different public vocational rehabilitation agencies around the United States. They also examined the different barriers agencies face when alcohol and other drugs and substance abuse was involved. They asked state directors to identify the procedures of working with coexisting disabilities and the eligibility of clients to receive services for substance use disorders (SUDs). The authors found that VR agencies have limited knowledge of the importance of SUD screening and the procedures that are needed when there is an abuse of other drugs.

Disabilities served:  Alcohol and drug abuse
