Structured abstract:

Background:  This qualitative study investigated the lived experiences of foster youth with disabilities during their transition from secondary school to adulthood. The study sought to identify what barriers the young people faced in the pursuit of a successful, stable adulthood.
Purpose:  Assist professionals in understanding this population's perspective in order to support a successful transition.

Disabilities served:  Anxiety disorder
Bi-polar
Chronic mental illness
Cognitive / intellectual impairment
Depression
Learning disabilities
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Populations served:  Transition-age youth (14 - 24)
Adjudicated adults and youth
