Structured abstract:
Background: | This article explores ways to effectively support the transition from school to employment for youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Various statistics surrounding barriers, employment, and living independently are provided, including information about involvement with Vocational Rehabilitation services. The article also provides an overview and description of employment services and supports available in the adult system that youth with disabilities will need to connect with if they plan to seek employment. Successful transition involves early planning, collaboration with supportive individuals, and building a support network that incorporates support resources from community agencies and organizations. |
