Structured abstract:

Background:  Children in rural foster care have not been reported on or studied, as it has been easier to discuss urban foster care.
Purpose:  This short editorial discusses some of the research that has been done on children in rural foster care, and why it's important that mental health care research and professionals nurses turn their attention to them.
