The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center has one of seven Regional Amputation Centers and has the 4th largest veteran population in the country. Since 1946, the Richmond VAMC has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. Services are available to more than 200,000 veterans coming from 52 cities and counties covering 22,515 miles of central and southern Virginia and parts of northern North Carolina.

The Servicemember Transitional Advanced Rehabilitation (STAR) program is a unique program designed for injured Servicemembers and Veterans who require a transitional rehabilitation program in order to successfully return to work and community. The STAR program provides gradated medical care, rehabilitation therapies, mental health support, and progressive vocational rehabilitation. The comprehensive treatment setting is designed to improve physical functioning, optimize health and mental functioning, as well as achieve effective preparation for transitioning to a new career field. Dr. Joseph Webster, Medical Director, VHA Amputation System of Care, will be providing his expertise and support to the VCU-RRTC with Research Study Five, An Exploration of Employment Barriers and Employment Skill Enhancement of Veterans with Traumatic Amputation.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Joseph Webster is a physician with 17 years of experience in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) as a clinician, teacher, and researcher. He has been serving as the Medical Director of the VHA Amputation System of Care (ASoC) since February 2011. Dr. Webster also is currently the Medical Director for the Servicemember Transitional Advanced Rehabilitation program located at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Webster is an Associate Professor in the Department of PM&R at Virginia Commonwealth University.
