C.J. Arms grew up in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. He attended Emory & Henry where he garnered two bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Economics, while minoring in Business Management. During his 4 years at E&H, C.J. served as an Orientation Leader, Psychology Club President, Student Government Association Senator, Macroeconomics tutor, and Lab Assistant for Research Design in Psychology.
C.J. then moved to Shanghai, China to teach at Shanghai High School International Division. In addition to teaching 5th grade, he tutored students in ESL and also served as Program Director for a youth sports organization called Active Kidz Shanghai (AKS).
His passion for athletics has led him to moonlighting as a sports official since 2009. Primarily working men’s college basketball games, C.J. also has experience as a football, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball referee.
C.J. also holds a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Counseling & Personnel Services from Virginia Commonwealth University. While pursuing his master’s degree, he volunteered in the Global Education Office as a Conversation Partner, Student Advisor, and Cultural Ambassador. He spent roughly 2 years as a tutor for student-athletes, and as a Career Counselor in the VCU School of Business.
In his personal time, C.J. loves to play music, travel, and hang out with his family. He’s a proud dad who enjoys exploring new adventures, and experiencing various global cuisines!
